Timberwolf Learning Center Asynchronous Writing Center (TLC AWC)
What is the TLC AWC?
The TLC AWC provides asynchronous appointments to allow students to participate in a remote dialogue with a tutor, receiving written comments and suggestions from a peer TLC Tutor without meeting face-to-face or online. We will return your writing assignment via your NU email with comments and suggestions to guide your next steps. Please note that our AWC is not an editing service, and tutors will not make any changes to your writing.
How does TLC AWC work?
When using the TLC AWC, you will not meet with a specific TLC Tutor in real time. Instead, you will complete a form and upload two things: (1) your writing assignment in the form of a Microsoft Word document and (2) your professor's assignment description/requirements. Then, a TLC Tutor will spend about an hour reviewing your work and email your writing assignment back with a Tutor Notes report and comments on your writing assignment using the comment box feature within 24 hours, not including Fridays or Saturdays. If the end of your 24 hours falls on a Friday or Saturday, you may not receive your feedback until the end of day on that following Sunday.
AWC Policies
- The AWC is not an editing service, and your tutor will not make any changes to your writing.
- AWC Tutors will concern themselves first with your organization, argument, support, clarity, etc. If you have many spelling mistakes or grammatical errors, the tutor of course will point them out, but this is not their first concern.
- Students are limited to one asynchronous session request per week per assignment. Students can, of course, use the TLC drop-in hours to get face-to-face help with writing without an appointment when the TLC is open without any limitations (see TLC Drop-In Hours below).
- Once your writing assignment is submitted, it will take up to 24 hours to be returned to you via your NU email. If the end of your 24 hours falls on a Friday or Saturday, you may not receive your feedback until the end of the day on that following Sunday. If your writing assignment is longer than six double-spaced pages, then it may take 24-48 hours to receive your feedback.
- Your assignment must be a Microsoft Word Document.
