Northwood University Blends Business in Art

Northwoodstock Productions Pilots First Event

About 6 months ago, an energetic, creative team of students at Northwood came to Georgia Abbott, Director of Alden B. Dow Center for Creativity and Enterprise, and Professor Mike Wynn to suggest starting an event that involved music venues, arts and “green thinking/concepts”.  This group, known as “Northwoodstock Productions”, has presented a business plan supported by both Georgia Abbott and Professor Mike Wynn.

Moving forward, this student group has collaborated with the City of Midland, specifically the DDA (Downtown Development Authority) with student volunteer assistance to the DDA events.  For example, the Northwoodstock team participated in the Midnight on Main event on New Year’s Eve collecting valuable feedback to apply to future events.  The Northwood students intend on working more closely with the planning committee to participate much more fully in planning and implementing the event for 2012/13.  In addition, several Entertainment and Sports Promotion Management students volunteered their musical talents to produce entertainment at the Dow Diamond “inside sidewalk sale” – Deal$ at the Diamond on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Focusing on the entertainment side, these students are ambitious to develop a successful production company.  Opportunities to participate in Midland’s public events provide students the initial stepping stones for planning/producing large scale events in the entertainment industry.
